about Peace

Peace as an Attribute or Name of God

He is the only Lord, the King, the Holy, the Peace, the Forgiver, the Watchful Guardian, the Majestic, the Dominant, and the Exalted. God is too exalted to have any partner. (Quran 59:23, Muhammad Sarwar)

Peace from God on Man

The slumber that overcame you was from God that brought you peace. He showered water from the sky over you to clean you, remove satanic wickedness from you, strengthen your hearts, and grant you steadfastness. (Quran 8:11, Muhammad Sarwar)

Then Allah sent His peace of reassurance down upon His messenger and upon the believers, and sent down hosts ye could not see, and punished those who disbelieved. Such is the reward of disbelievers. (Quran 9:26, Pickthall)

If you do not help (the Prophet, remember) God had helped him when the infidels had forced him to leave (and he was) one of two. When both of them were in the cave, he said to his companion: "Do not grieve, for God is with us." Then God sent divine peace on him, and invisible armies for his help, and made the unbelievers' purpose abject. Most exalted is God's word, for God is all-mighty and all-wise. (Quran 9:40, Ahmed Ali)

God has promised the righteously striving believers to appoint them as His deputies on earth, as He had appointed those who lived before. He will make the religion that He has chosen for them to stand supreme. He will replace their fear with peace and security so that they will worship God alone and consider no one equal to Him. Whoever becomes an unbeliever after this will be a sinful person. (Quran 24:55, Muhammad Sarwar)

Say: "Praise belongs to God, and peace be on His servants whom He has chosen." What, is God better, or that they associate? (Quran 27:59, Arberry)

He it is Who sent down peace of reassurance into the hearts of the believers that they might add faith unto their faith. Allah's are the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is ever Knower, Wise. (Quran 48:4, Pickthall)

And Allah is Aware of all things. (Quran 48:26, Pickthall)

Peace with God

And why should I fear those you associate with Him when you fear not associating others with God for which He has sent down no sanction? (Quran 6:81,82, Ahmed Ali)

Peace among Men

And when Abraham said: "O Lord, make this a city of peace, and give those of its citizens who believe in God and the Last Day fruits for food," He answered: "To those will I also give a little who believe not, for a time, then drag them to Hell, a dreadful destination!" (Quran 2:126, Ahmed Ali)

People of the Book, now there has come to you Our Messenger, making clear to you many things you have been concealing of the Book, and effacing many things. There has come to you from God a light, and a Book Manifest whereby God guides whosoever follows His good pleasure in the ways of peace, and brings them forth from the shadows into the light by His leave; and He guides them to a straight path. (Quran 5:15,16, Arberry)

When those who believe in Our revelations come to you, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has taken it upon Himself to be merciful. So that if any one among you does evil in ignorance and repents thereafter and makes amends, then He is most forgiving and ever merciful." (Quran 6:54, Wahiduddin Khan)

And why should I fear those you associate with Him when you fear not associating others with God for which He has sent down no sanction? Whatever you spend for the cause of God, He will give you sufficient recompense with due justice. If they (the unbelievers) propose peace, accept it and trust in God. God is All-hearing and All-knowing. (Quran 8:60,61, Muhammad Sarwar)

Can a man who knows what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, and one who cannot see, be the same? They alone take warning who are wise, who fulfil their covenant with God and do not break their agreement, who keep together what God has ordained held together, and fear their Lord and dread the hardship of the Reckoning, who persevere in seeking the way of their Lord, who fulfil their devotional obligations, and spend of what We have given them, secretly or openly, who repel evil with good: For them is the recompense of Paradise: Perpetual gardens which they will enter with those of their fathers, spouses and children who were virtuous and at peace, with angels coming in through every door. (Some of) the followers of the Bible believe in the Quran. When it is recited to them, they say, "We believe in it. It is the Truth from our Lord. We were Muslims before it was revealed." These will receive double reward for their forbearance, replacing evil by virtue, and for their spending for the cause of God. When they hear impious words, they ignore them, saying, "We shall be responsible for our deeds and you will be responsible for yours. Peace be with you. We do not want to become ignorant." (Quran 28:52-55, Muhammad Sarwar)

Those they call upon, apart from Him, have no power of intercession, save such as have testified to the truth, and that knowingly. If thou askest them, 'Who created you?' they will say, 'God.' How then are they perverted? And for his saying, 'My Lord, surely these are a people who believe not' -- yet pardon them, and say, 'Peace!' Soon they will know. (Quran 43:86-89, Arberry)

If two parties among the believers start to fight against each other, restore peace among them. If one party rebels against the other, fight against the rebellious one until he surrenders to the command of God. When he does so, restore peace among them with justice and equality; God loves those who maintain justice. Believers are each other's brothers. Restore peace among your brothers. Have fear of God so that perhaps you will receive mercy. (Quran 49:9,10, Muhammad Sarwar)

Peace in One's Heart

Their prophet said to them: "The sign of his kingship will be that you will come to have a heart full of peace and tranquility from your Lord and the legacy left by Moses' and Aaron's family supported by angels. This shall be a token for you if you really believe." (Quran 2:248, Ahmed Ali)

Eternal Peace

God calls man to the home of peace and He guides whom He wills to a straight path. (Quran 10:25, Wahiduddin Khan)

Except for those who repent and believe and do good deeds. These will enter Heaven, and they will not be wronged in the least. Theirs shall be the Gardens of Eden, which the All Merciful has promised to His servants without their having seen them, and most surely His promise shall be fulfilled. They will not hear therein anything vain, only greetings of peace. They will receive their provision there morning and evening. (Quran 13:60-62, Wahiduddin Khan)

Except for those who repent and believe and do good deeds. God will change the evil deeds of such people into good ones: He is most forgiving and most merciful. He who repents and does good deeds has truly turned to God. And those who do not bear false witness, and when they pass by frivolity, they pass by with dignity; who do not turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the signs of their Lord when they are reminded of them; who say, "Lord, grant us joy in our wives and children and make us a model for the righteous." These are the ones who will be rewarded with lofty mansions in Paradise, for their steadfastness. They will be received therein with greetings of welcome and salutations of peace. (Quran 25:70-75, Wahiduddin Khan)

Only they believe in Our revelations who, when they are reminded, bow in adoration, and give praise to their Lord, and do not become arrogant. Their backs do not rest on their beds, and they pray to their Lord in fear and hope, and spend of what We have given them (in charity). No soul knows what peace and joy lie hidden from them as reward for what they have done. (Quran 32:15-17, Ahmed Ali)

It is not your wealth or your children that will confer on you nearness to Us. It is those who believe and act righteously who will be doubly rewarded for their good deeds, and will dwell in peace in the high pavilions [of paradise]. (Quran 34:37, Wahiduddin Khan)

The people of Paradise shall be happily occupied on that Day, they and their wives, shall recline on couches in the shade. They shall have fruits therein, and all that they ask for. "Peace!" shall be the greeting from the Merciful Lord. (Quran 36:55-58, Wahiduddin Khan)

O soul at peace, return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! Enter thou among My servants! Enter thou My Paradise! (Quran 89:27-30, Arberry)
